hott notes 4 is now officially released!

Finally, hott notes 4 is out of beta and available for download. Here are some of the changes made since beta 2:

Printing now works.
Ctrl+V for paste in notes now work.
User Guide help file included.
European-formated date setting fixed.
Edit Options dialog expanded for those with layout issues.
Typing in a font size manually bug fixed.
HTTPS links now work.
Default transparency setting now works.
Theme creation bug fixed.
Quick Action Buttons don't reappear after note is crumpled.
Notes no longer move to the front of the screen after display change.
Notebook redone.

I get the following error when I try to install Hottnotes 4:

C:Program Files\hott notes 4\hottnotes.exe
This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

I had Beta 4 installed and shut it down before I tried to install the new version. I uninstalled hottnotes and tried again but got the same error, I even removed all references to hottnotes that I could find in the registry. Any idea what I need to do to get the new version installed?

hott notes is having trouble running on certain setups. I'm working on fixing this now. I should have a fix up by tonight.

I fixed the installer, so now it should work on all setups. The installer is a little less than a megabyte bigger now, because I had to include some DLL files that were missing.

Please try to download and install again.

I haven't been able to reproduce this blank theme bug. Could you give me a few more details? Which version of hott notes were you upgrading from, or was this a clean install? What exactly do you mean by "blank" themes?

I uninstalled beta 4 completely, then installed Hottnotes 4 official release. When I go to the themes tab there are no themes available, just an empty dropdown box. I am stuck with green hottnotes only. Everything else seems to be working fine. Thanks, Harry.

I haven't been able to reproduce your bug yet. I'm still looking into it, but if anyone else has seen this, please chime in. Also, when you ran hott notes, did it import your hott notes 3 notes, or did it start from scratch?

I uninstalled Beta 4 and installed Hott Notes 4 final without importing any notes. Beta 4 was installed over Hott Notes 3 and the notes were imported if that makes a difference. But basically I did a clean install of Hott Notes 4 final. I even made sure there were no references to it under program files or in the registry. (Although I may have missed something in the registry). Is there a registry key I need to change?

I got the themes in Hott Notes working by uninstalling Hott Notes 4 final and deleting the file in Program files. I then installed Hott Notes 3 and then reinstalled Hott Notes 4 and everything seems to be working fine now except when I print a note the last few entries don't print. This has to be the best notes program out there! Keep up the good work....

I'm glad you were able to find a solution! Yeah, printing is a little finicky at this point, but it should work fine for most people's needs. I'll be releasing incremental upgrades, so look for those.

I love your program. It is by far the best one I have found for windows after trying several.
Sometimes, usually at the most inconvenient times, the program will crash while I am resizing a note. The error in the even log is below.

I can reproduce this every time if I do the following. Using xp sp2.

1. Set note to transparent, no quick action buttons

2. Enter enough text so that scroll bars will appear.

3. resize note vigorously around and around with the mouse so that the scroll bars appear and disappear. After a few seconds of doing this the error will occur.

When it does crash, I loose my custom font size settings. And any text that was entered since the last backup is missing.


I hope you release a patch for this program. I really do like it. I just wish it was more stable for me.
